Being grateful today (Lessons from a child)

So, it is Christmas’ish time and it got me thinking on this subject in a couple ways. One, being grateful for all you have and two in the area of my personal niche of talking about homes…. Have you ever heard of those glitzy ritzy holiday home tours? Parade of homes? You know the perfect historical homes located in those admirable pockets of endearing little neighborhoods… These homes have been brought back to life and updated in the upmost careful way without taking away from their historical charm. It’s hard to not compare. These homes are the ones that make you stop in your tracks in awe of the gorgeous and intricately styled spaces both outdoors and in. Then we have the newer built custom homes in sprawling neighborhoods with grand foyers and large entertaining spaces that are just beautiful. Modern and new and fresh and clean. It had me start thinking about my home and others just like mine that are just as beautiful in a REAL and tangible way. Yet, we don’t give them as much credit because the square footage is lacking, or it does not quite fit into the mold of a magazine cover home. Let me make myself clear in stating that I hold no BIAS to either of these living situations nor anything I may have not mentioned that falls short or in between. We all prefer what we prefer, and we all can afford what we can afford. That is just life. That being said I wanted to speak for myself (and a few others out there like me) who I know will get what I’m trying to say. As a society we hold our status in line with our homes. The bigger and more exuberant the abode the more lavish of a life. It’s a stigma we have placed hand in hand on that subject. Yet, when you start picking through the bones of that thought process you will realize that it is not necessarily as true as you may think. When I think of home I think of safe and calm. When I think of home I think of love. Memories and days spent working on it or trying to fix an issue or to aesthetically make it better. Planning and then saving for something and then making that vision come to life. I think of holidays and parties and pets and moments of joy and laughter. That to me is something the size of a home cannot change. My daughter brought home two pictures after Thanksgiving and I honestly was blown away when I read and saw what she had written and drew. It was of our family and our home and how she “sees” it and our family. I will share them below. I’ll leave you with this …. It is not the size of the home but the people and lives within those walls that breathe those happy little breaths within it. So be happy in your RV or tiny home traveling across America. Be Happy in your 4,000 sq foot newer build home. Be happy in your cabin sitting far away from civilization and living off the land. Be happy in your historical home in a desirable part of town. Be happy in your tiny apartment with a nice view of the city. Be happy in your trailer with the door that was just painted your favorite color. Be happy in your little red brick ranch. Be happy in your bungalow nearby the beach. Be happy on your farm with animals grazing. Be happy in your cottage on your porch swing. Be happy in your condo or town home. Be happy now. Be happy today. Be happy tomorrow. Just be HAPPY.

This is a thankful momma for the lessons learned from my child.
