How do I get my outdoor space ready for fall?
It is hard to believe that fall is not that far off. If you are like our family we spend a lot of time outside and have grown to love our outdoor space. That being said, I was thinking how can I help ensure you have your spot ready for the fall days and evenings ahead…
If you do not have any outdoor lighting, I suggest you find a way to bring it in… We have the outdoor patio string lights that are a commercial grade and keep them up all year long. Even better we have them set on a timer so they turn on each evening and off at a certain time at night.
If you do not have an outlet or a way to string these lights I suggest candles, tiki torches, and tabletop torches to keep bugs away and provide for some light.
Fall can be a weird time, some days hot, others cool, with day and evening temps rising and dropping drastically in between. I like to have a layer between my feet and the concrete so having an outdoor rug provides a little extra coziness and warmth.
Particularly, if you are entertaining having outdoor pillows and throw blankets for the kiddos and guests to utilize in the cooler temps is a nice thing to provide. While you may not want to keep the blankets outside consistently, especially if not in a covered area, you can store them in a weather safe outdoor bin or bench or simply bring them out on an as needed basis. Sometimes having them draped across a chair or folded in a basket for easy access showcases to guests they are there to use… go ahead and take one.
If space and budget allow, you will not regret a fire pit table. We have two spots for a fire…a fire ring further out in the yard and then on the covered patio, we have the pit table and we like to use it especially if it’s rainy, breezy or simply if we are not up for maintaining a fire and or chopping wood. Sizes and prices vary widely for these kind of tables, so there are a lot of options. Another option are the patio heaters that have become more popular in recent years.
Lastly, if you really want to impress guests have a s’mores bar set up. Whether it’s a full on tablescape mobile cart or tray with all the accoutrements, it adds a little nice touch that says I’m glad you’re here, have a snack and enjoy your time.
Don’t forget to accessorize with fall plants, flowers (such as mums), gourds, pumpkins and autumnal decor.
