Decorating/Design Philosophy

I am touching just a little on this blog post of just a small part of my decorating and design philosophy…. In a nutshell, it is

  • affordability,

  • practicality and

  • replacement cost.

APR for short I call it. You need to be able to afford it and have budgeted for it no matter the cost. Period. If you have to take some time to save for it by all means do so but hold off on other things if it means that much to you.

Is it practical? I’m not saying that it has to walk the dogs for you. What I want to elaborate here is that most of us do not know the difference between a $400 glass vase and $40 vase. Use your head, spend on things that need to be spent on and allow for them to do the talking in your room when it comes time to show it off. Things like this would be kitchen cabinets, faucets, windows, carpeting and flooring, furniture etc.

Should it break or start showing signs of general wear and tear…how long would you need to save to replace it? This is why saving up and buying pieces that will last are important so that replacing it won’t have to happen anytime soon. Buying something cheaper every two years as opposed to every 5-10 years will cost you more in the long run.

I’ll touch more on styles and tips later on down the road.
